A few years ago, I was obsessed with an outfit recipe that consisted of just two base ingredients: jeans and a white tee. This outfit could be dressed up or down and served as my daily work uniform.
Back then, I still worked in the office and needed a quick and easy winning look day in and day out. Luckily, I am an accessories girlie, so all my favourite scrunchies, heels, bags, rings and other accessories were put to good use.
Fast-forward a few years, and I’m working from home. It's winter, so I don't go out as much. Plus, now that I'm older and living in the suburbs, I rarely go out past 8 PM!
I hope some of you can relate.
Not that I'm sitting here in my Juicy Couture sweatpants all day. Oh hell now, honey. I still put together an outfit every morning (or sometimes when I lay awake at night), but my heart isn't really in it. I need a new outfit recipe (or five!) to ensure I don’t lose my love of playing ‘dress up’, even if it’s only for myself and the Woolies checkout lady who once told me my outfit ‘ate’.
My desk-bound self is hungry, so let’s eat!
I looked at what everyone else was cooking up to bounce back from my hunger strike. Here are a few quick and easy recipes you can tweak to make your own:
Let’s have a Copenhagen and some tea
How to dress like a Copenhagen girlie: A tutorial… We all know the drill. Think PJ pants lightly mixed with gold or silver (or both!) jewels, a neck scarf and a slouchy or sparkly bag.
Denim lasagna, like Nana used to make…
Britney and JT might have popularized this denim-on-denim recipe, but it has stood the test of time.
Supersize it
If in doubt, oversize it. Oversized blazers, knits, button-down shirts, and leather or denim jackets keep you warm and get you noticed in every room you enter, even if it's virtual.
I also like the option of wearing an oversized blazer with tights or leggings and trainers for extra comfort.
One dress wonders
We all have that one recipe that is an old faithful. You need that situation but in dress form. One dress (preferably a winter dress in this case) that you can wear with any casual or formal shoes and add a layer like a trench or coat over for extra warmth.
Don’t forget the garnish
Sprinkle yourself with some gold and silver Best accessories or an oversized scrunchie. No matter the outfit. Good accessories elevate ANY look.
Good soup, good shoes
This recipe will take you only a few seconds to master. Click, shop Salomon, Asics, or New Balance trainers, and wear them with formal trousers and a vest over a long tee or a blazer. And voila!
